"House" Star Hugh Laurie Covers Guitar Aficionado

Hugh Laurie, best known as the titular character on "House M.D.", but forever beloved by Elepharts for his bumbling characters in the great British classic comedy series "Blackadder", takes the cover of Guitar Aficionado's May/June 2011 issue. Fans of Fox's long-running medical drama know that the curmudgeonly Dr. Greg House is as likely to pick up an axe and strum a few desolate notes as he is to solve a perplexing medical mystery in under 45 minutes -- and sometimes, he does both simultaneously. But House isn't alone in his love of Gibson Flying Vs and Les Pauls. Laurie himself is a strummer off the set.

In addition to sharing his collection of Fenders, Paul Reed Smiths and Martins with Guitar Aficionado, Laurie opens up to the magazine about his lifelong love of all things musical. Besides the guitar, Laurie plays the piano, the sax, the harmonica and the drums. He talks to Guitar Aficionado about how his bluesy debut solo album, Let Them Talk, out this fall, differs from the musical comedy he once often performed on the BBC.

He also demonstrates just how different he is from the guarded Dr. House: "With the music I'm playing now, there's nowhere to hide," he says. "I'm standing there at the mic, playing music I adore, and I'm baring my heart and soul. It's scary."
