Pia Toscano Voted Off American Idol
In the biggest shock that Elepharts can recall in 10 seasons of "American Idol", far and away the best singer in the competition, Pia Toscano, was sent home tonight. The judges were nearly apoplectic, the contestants were beside themselves, but poor Pia managed to hold it together long enough to sing like an angel for us one last time before dissolving into tears. It just makes no sense. Yes Stefano Langone belonged in the bottom three, he's a cutie pie but he lacks real skill as a singer. Jacob Lusk, who had the audacity to tell America that if he landed in the bottom three it wouldn't be due to his singing or performance but because we're all idiots - yes he belonged in the bottom three. But Pia? She didn't even belong in the bottom three - let alone to be the one sent packing. Clearly the judges used their one save of the season a tad early, wasting it as it turns out, on Casey Abrams who just really isn't that great. But what do we know. We had figured Pia as sailing right on into the finals. And so, our attempt at prognosticating this season officially ends tonight. We obviously have no idea whatsoever what the rest of America likes or who they're voting for or why. Since this is at the Top 9 stage and not the top three, four or five as happened with other crazy upsets like Tamyra Gray or Chris Daughtry, we doubt Pia has even managed to get enough exposure yet to launch a real career. But we've got our fingers crossed that with the connections made through the involvement this year of world class music producers like Jimmy Iovine, maybe, just maybe, she's at least impressed them enough. Pia - you will be sorely missed.
