Pia Toscano Has A Record Deal!

Pia Toscano, the beautiful angel-voiced singer inexplicably voted off of "American Idol" last week, is wrapping up a record deal with Interscope Records. According to Us: "Papers are being finalized. It's basically a done deal. She's signing. They rushed everything but she's so excited." Obviously this is great news for Pia who was the biggest shock elimination in Idol history thanks at least in part to the sheer ineptitude of this year's revised judging panel. With dinosaur rocker Steven Tyler simply praising every singer, career-revitalized "singer" Jennifer Lopez too scared to offer any real commentary lest her new fans abandon her, and Randy "The Dawg" Jackson once again offering little in the way of guidance to the contestants or the viewers, it seems it will fall to the teeny-boppers who text 500 times weekly for the "cute guy" to come up with the winner. And then the franchise will be saddled once again with a bland popster who will be immediately forgotten when the bubble of the show's season bursts. Taylor Hicks, Kris Allen, Lee DeWyze... it's a sad legacy that's forming.

Anyways, the rest of the world has thrown it's support behind Pia in a big way. Here's what a few celebrities had to say via Twitter:

Tom Hanks: "How could the USA vote Pia off? I may be done for the season!"

Rita Wilson: "Was Pia punked?"

Ashton Kutcher: "Who are the people that vote on American idol? That's just crazy! That Pia girl is dope!"

It seems Pia was the only one who had an inkling of what was going to go down on the results show saying on the Friday morning after the elimination "After my performance I felt something weird. I said to my parents, 'I kind of feel like I'm going to be in the bottom three tomorrow.'" But even so, when describing her goodbye performance she said "I couldn't even breathe at that moment, so the fact that I could get anything out was a miracle." And according to E! News she wound up being escorted off stage by two medics.

But here now is her first post-Idol performance from Friday's Leno - enjoy!
