Halle Berry To Host The 2011 EIF Revlon Run/Walk For Cancer
Academy Award winning actress Halle Berry will once again co-host the Los Angeles EIF Revlon Run/Walk for Women - one of the nation's largest single-day fundraisers to support women's cancer research - on Saturday, May 7th 2011 (during Mother's Day Weekend) along with Alyson Hannigan (Star of "How I Met Your Mother") and with American Idol finalist Kimberley Locke there too, to sing the national anthem. A week earlier on Saturday, April 30th Jimmy Fallon and Dr.Oz will co-host the New York event which will include a special performance by Keyshia Cole.
The 14th annual New York race starts in Times Square and finishes in Central Park, attracting over 20,000 participants. The 18th annual Los Angeles race takes place at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum at Exposition Park and attracts over 40,000 participants each year.
The EIF Revlon Run/Walk for Women was launched in 1994 through the combined efforts of Lilly Tartikoff, Ronald O. Perelman, chairman of Revlon, Inc., and EIF. Since inception, more than $60 million in grants have been made from the combined events in New York and Los Angeles.
"Since the first EIF Revlon Run/Walk, hundreds of thousands of men, women and children have shown their support for this important event. I am incredibly inspired by their dedication and passion for the cause and thank them for helping us make the run so successful," stated Perelman, chairman of Revlon, Inc., co-founder of the EIF Revlon Run/Walk and co-founder of the Revlon/UCLA Women's Cancer Research Program.
Proceeds from past EIF Revlon Run/Walks have funded cutting-edge research, contributed to the development of the breakthrough gene treatment Herceptin® as well as other targeted therapies, brought new and innovative treatment approaches to women's cancers worldwide. Monies raised have also helped numerous organizations in providing education, advocacy and outreach services to those affected by women's cancers.
"Every single person who joins us in the Run/Walk is truly a gift. Either through their support, donations or commitment to participate in the Run/Walk itself," says Lilly Tartikoff, co-founder of the EIF Revlon Run/Walk for Women and co-founder of the Revlon/UCLA Women's Cancer Research Program. "We are blessed to have thousands join us each year in both New York and Los Angeles and share their compelling and inspiring stories that will help lead us to a cure."
"A few years ago I lost my mom to a three-year, hard-fought battle with ovarian cancer, and so many of us have similar stories," says Lisa Paulsen, president and CEO of the Entertainment Industry Foundation. "We are truly grateful to every single person who participates, for their invaluable help in raising much-needed funds for crucial research and support programs to help the women we love and the thousands who are affected by this every day."
