Casey Abrams SAVED On "American Idol"

The Elepharts staff was sure the guy was having a heart attack - right there before our eyes - on "live" television. Did you see it? If ever there was an "American Idol" results show worth watching, this was it. See, Ryan Seacrest had told Casey Abrams he was the one in danger of going home tonight. Casey started singing his swan song. And then all of a sudden Randy Jackson interrupted the performance - waving and ordering Ryan to get Casey to stop. Casey was utterly confused. Then Randy told him the judges already know who he is and what he's all about and that they've used their "Once A Season Contestant Save" for him. Casey turned white as a sheet. His whole body started shaking involuntarily. His lips lost all color - he started to spasm... Ryan explained to him what had happened and still his eyes were not comprehending. Finally it clicked in and then there were lots of production fiddled, audio silenced expletives of joy and demonstrative judge and family hugging.

Casey said it never occurred to him they'd use the "save" at the Top 11 stage. Once Ryan called his name he knew he was done. As the show faded out it seemed that Casey had finally started to recover himself. Now, keep in mind that this cut had a lot of pressure on it because the one going home tonight came oh-so-close to making the tour but just missed it because only 10 make it out onto the road. Soooo - then as the credits started rolling - when Seacrest made everyone quiet down to explain that because of the "save" the tour would now include 11 - thus Casey had not only been given another week to perform but also made the major step of joining the concert tour - Casey went white and nearly collapsed again. As far as we know he's back in the hospital again because that's where the show ended. Pretty crazy huh?

Not only in all of that - but that Casey was in fact the one selected by the audience as the one to go. That was a shocker to everyone. Yup, while we had moved Casey way down on the probable winner list saying he had fallen fast and hard due to his terrible grimacing performances the last 2 weeks - we didn't put him in the bottom 3, let alone the go home slot. We DID have Stefano Langone and Thia Megia there - so 2 out of 3 ain't bad once again this week. We had picked Haley Reinhart - who somehow, amazingly found herself safe last night. Hmmm... we confess we're utterly perplexed by that. Guess we'll actually have to start saying something about her dismal performances from here on in if the rest of the world actually kinda sorta likes her.
